Weddings have a unique way of reflecting the personalities and passions of the couple tying the knot, and Cam and Giverny’s enchanting Lord of the Rings wedding inspired day at Slaugham Place, West Sussex, was no exception. This celebrant-led ceremony was a whimsical masterpiece, perfectly blending the couple’s love for each other, their shared nerdy passions, and a touch of Tolkien magic. Oh, and a glorious new surname to boot—they walked away as The Rivers! This Lord of the Rings wedding was truly a celebration of love and fandom.

Their shared love for the Lord of the Rings was evident, reminding everyone of the magic of storytelling through their wedding.

Cam and Giverny’s love story is one for the ages. They first met at London Comic Con, introduced by a mutual friend while cosplaying as misunderstood heroes. Sparks didn’t just fly; they blazed, but their connection grew naturally through a deep friendship first.

As the couple prepared for their Lord of the Rings wedding, they envisioned a day that not only celebrated their love but also embraced their passion for the epic saga.

One of their early bonding activities was long walks in the woods, discussing life, love, and everything in between. It was on one of these strolls that Cam realised Gi was more than a friend; she was the love of his life. Years later, in a moment straight out of a fairy tale, Cam proposed during a picnic at one of their favourite local viewpoints. Gi said yes through happy tears, and their adventure as a couple was forever sealed.

Every element of their Lord of the Rings wedding was thoughtfully curated, from the decor to the music, embodying the spirit of Middle-earth.

As their special day approached, the excitement of planning their Lord of the Rings wedding filled the air, with every detail reflecting their love for the epic saga and each other.

Slaugham Place, with its romantic ruins and sprawling gardens, was the ideal backdrop for Cam and Gi’s dream wedding. The weather was nothing short of perfection—bright and sunny, with just enough of a breeze to make the bride’s hair dance like Arwen in Rivendell.

Guests mingled in anticipation of the Lord of the Rings wedding ceremony, sharing laughter and stories inspired by the couple’s love for the saga.

However, not all started as planned. With the summer traffic conspiring against a few guests, the ceremony was a little delayed. But rather than fret, everyone embraced the moment. Drinks were served in the picturesque gardens, and guests soaked up the beauty of the venue. That’s the magic of having a celebrant-led ceremony—flexibility! With only one ceremony a day, we had the freedom to adapt and ensure no one missed out.

During the handfasting, the couple took a moment to reflect on the significance of their Lord of the Rings wedding and what it meant to them.

Cam and Gi’s ceremony was as unique as their love story. Every element was meticulously planned, creating a magical atmosphere. The couple chose a mix of traditional and creative rituals, which made their promises to each other even more meaningful. With a beautifully planned entrance which included some of their wedding party entering carrying lanterns which they carefully set down on the steps leading up to the arched stage where the ceremony took place.

In crafting their vows, Cam and Gi drew strength from the stories of their favourite characters, making their Lord of the Rings wedding even more poignant.

The vows were the beating heart of the ceremony. Cam’s words were a mix of humour and tenderness—he even promised to check the fridge before food shopping! Meanwhile, Gi’s vows were poetic and deeply personal, drawing inspiration from their shared passions, including a nod to the Time Lord himself: “Love is not an emotion; it is a promise.” These promises set the tone for a marriage built on mutual understanding, laughter, and unwavering support.

No Lord of the Rings-inspired wedding would be complete without a nod to ancient traditions. The handfasting ceremony was a visual masterpiece, featuring nine cords braided together in shades of green, gold, cream, pink and lilac. Each hue symbolised a key ingredient for a successful marriage—from unity and romance to mystery and renewal. When the infinity knot was tied, it felt as though the whole world cheered.

The Quaich Ceremony: A Toast to Love

The ceremony also included a Quaich ritual, where Cam and Gi shared a drink from a traditional Celtic two-handled cup. The Quaich was filled with apple juice (for sweetness) and ginger ale (for spice), symbolising the perfect blend of their life together. A toast to love and adventure was made, and guests erupted into a joyous cheer that echoed through the ruins.

The theme for the day was shades of purple, with every detail lovingly brought to life by the couple and their friends and family. The marquee was a sight to behold, adorned with Lord of the Rings-inspired centrepieces that transported guests straight to Middle-earth. The creativity didn’t stop there: Gi, a true artist, crafted their wedding cake herself. Inspired by books, the cake was cut with… wait for it… a sword! Because why not?

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed more drinks and played lawn games on the manicured grounds. Laughter filled the air as everyone embraced the celebratory spirit. Guests then tucked into a delicious BBQ meal. I stayed for the reception and LOVED getting to know some of Cam and Gi’s family and friends!

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the celebration kicked into high gear. Cam and Gi led the charge onto the dancefloor, proving they’d lost none of their moves from the night they first met. The music played, the lights twinkled, and their family and friends joined in, celebrating the union of two incredible souls.

This wedding was not just an event but a beautiful narrative of love, creativity, and passion that will be cherished forever.

In conclusion, the Lord of the Rings inspired wedding of Cam and Gi stands as a testament to their love and the adventures that lie ahead.

The love story of Cam and Gi perfectly complemented their Lord of the Rings wedding theme, a true reflection of their journey together.

As the night came to an end, Cam and Giverny’s final act as newlyweds was stepping out into the world as The Rivers. Their new name reflected not only their union but the flowing, ever-evolving nature of their love. Like a river carving its path through time, their journey together promises to be one of endless adventure and beauty.

Cam and Gi—or should we say, The Rivers—thank you for letting me be part of your story. May your love continue to flow as gracefully and powerfully as the river that now shares your name.

“Wow. Where do we even start? From the moment we met Miranda we were struck by her incredibly warm and bright energy. A celebrant makes your wedding so much more personal, and Miranda is an absolute expert. At every step, we felt so reassured that we had made the perfect choice.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything you did to make our day so amazing. It takes a truly special person to organise our two unique styles into something so cohesive and beautiful. Not only that, but despite having a far from traditional ceremony, all of our guests felt comfortable and entertained.

Your good humour and warm way of addressing crowds made everyone so much more at ease. Many guests have commented on what a unique, magical ceremony we had, and who can blame them.

You are an absolute delight and we will be forever grateful to your help and kindness that made our wedding dreams come true.”
