A Polish Wedding to Remember: Asia and Emilien’s Cross-Cultural Celebration in Poland

AE523

There are weddings… and then there are Weddings. The ones that stay with you long after the confetti’s cleared and the espresso martinis have worn off. Asia and Emilien’s Polish wedding, held just outside the charming city of Wrocław, was absolutely one of those. It had everything—heartfelt vows, ancient rituals, vodka toasts, a flashmob (yes, really), and a castle backdrop that looked like it had wandered straight out of a fairytale and into real life.

It was my first time officiating in Poland, and what an introduction it was. If you ever find yourself in need of a reminder that love really can bring people together across borders, languages, and time zones, this weekend was it.

I first met Asia years ago way back in my corporate life. Fast forward at least 10 years and she reached out to ask if I would be happy to travel to Poland to officiate their wedding! It was an easy yes!

Wrocław is one of those places that quietly steals your heart. Its old town is all cobbled streets that whisper stories from centuries past. I arrived ahead of the wedding with enough time to explore—and thank goodness I did. It’s the sort of city that invites you to wander slowly, soaking up the atmosphere.

The night before the ceremony, guests gathered on a rooftop bar with views across the roofs of Wrocław’s old town. It was relaxed, breezy, and brimming with excitement. I bumped into a few familiar faces from a past life in the corporate world—one of those joyful moments that made the evening feel like a reunion as well as a warm-up act for the main event.

Asia and Emilien chose to host their Polish wedding at Zamek Topacz, a magnificent resort and castle just outside the city. Imagine stately turrets, lush greenery, and lakeside views worthy of a film set. The place has this uncanny ability to feel both grand and inviting at the same time—like it knows it’s special, but isn’t showing off.

With guests flying in from more than 30 countries, this venue ticked every box. It created a cosy little world for the weekend, allowing everyone to fully immerse themselves in the celebration together!

Asia is proudly Polish and deeply rooted in her heritage. Emilien hails from Belgium, with a twinkle in his eye and a love of the unexpected. They first met through an international leadership programme while dating other people but years later a friendship that blossomed into something quite magical.

Asia brings warmth, energy and an enviable ability to laugh with her whole being. Emilien, meanwhile, offers calm, curiosity and a sense of grounded adventure. Together, they’re the perfect blend of heart and soul.

The ceremony itself was held in the castle grounds, beneath a generous Polish sky. It was utterly bespoke, shaped around who Asia and Emilien are—not just as individuals, but as a partnership that spans borders and brings people together.

In a heartfelt nod to a Belgian wedding tradition, Asia paused at the top of the aisle to present her wonderful mum with a bouquet of flowers—an elegant gesture of gratitude for a lifetime of unconditional love and unwavering support. Then, after the rings had been exchanged and promises made, Asia offered a second bouquet—this time to her new mother-in-law—as a warm and thoughtful welcome into the family, and a quiet thank-you for the love and kindness already shared.

One of the most moving parts of the ceremony was the Warming of the Rings. If you’ve never witnessed this tradition, prepare to be quietly undone. Guests were invited to hold the couple’s wedding bands in their hands, offering silent blessings, good wishes, or prayers. It’s the sort of moment that makes time slow down and reminds everyone why they’re really there.

They wrote their own vows, of course. Asia’s were poetic and lyrical—she has a way with words that could outshine most seasoned writers. Emilien balanced things beautifully with humour, humility, and the kind of promises that had everyone dabbing their eyes while laughing too!

Next came a handfasting ritual, with ribbons chosen to reflect different communities of people who have supported Asia and Emilien over the years. Representatives from family and friends each laid ribbons which were then tied in the infinity knot. It wasn’t just symbolic—it was felt.

The beauty of a Polish wedding is that it blends the old with the new, and Asia and Emilien struck that balance perfectly. The moment they entered the reception, they were greeted in true Polish fashion—with bread, salt, and vodka.

The bread represents prosperity, the salt reminds us life isn’t always sweet, and the vodka… well, that’s for joy, of course. And possibly courage. You decide.

It was a reminder that traditions don’t need to be stiff or outdated. They can be joyful, symbolic anchors that root a celebration in something deeper.

Polish weddings have a reputation for going big. And this one was off the charts fun!

The reception was a feast of flavours, music, vodka and surprises. From the moment the first toast was raised to the final dance at 5am (yes, 5am), the atmosphere was electric. There were emotional speeches, a flashmob and they even included a nod to their beloved cats – with their cute fluffy faces printed on plackards that were danced around the floor throughout the night.

The food was delicious. Hearty dishes that hugged your insides – and yes—I’ve been converted to beetroot.

Then there was the coffee bar, styled like Central Perk from Friends, complete with espresso martinis. A cheeky nod to Asia’s sitcom obsession and a caffeine hit that kept us all going.

In true post-wedding fashion, the universe threw in one last surprise: my flight home was cancelled. But instead of stress, what I got was an unexpected gift—an extra day to wander the grounds of Zamek Topacz, reflect on the weekend, and maybe pinch myself once or twice.

The stillness after the celebration gave me time to appreciate just how much love, intention, and soul had gone into every moment. This wasn’t just a Polish wedding—it was a story about connection, resilience, and the power of creating your own way to celebrate.

Asia and Emilien’s Polish wedding wasn’t about perfection—it was about presence. It was about showing up for one another, honouring your roots while building something fresh, and throwing one hell of a party in the process.

To be part of their ceremony was a complete joy. To witness the blending of traditions, the laughter echoing off castle walls, and two people so beautifully in sync—it reminded me, once again, why I do what I do.

So if you’re planning a wedding that spans cultures, languages, or continents—take heart. This Polish wedding might just give you the perfect template: one that’s rooted in heritage, generous in spirit, and wildly, joyfully unforgettable.

“It has been a pleasure working with Miranda on our wedding ceremony and would highly recommend her.

We really enjoyed co-designing the day with her, she had some many great ideas and was really helpful in facilitating conversations between my wife and I to help us understand what we really wanted.

The ceremony was really unique and beautiful.

She has such wonderful attention to detail, from bringing small fans (it was a super hot on the day), to gifting us personalised hankerchiefs and even some treats for our cats in a post wedding box she sent over memories from the day.

If you are looking for someone who loves their job, cares deeply about designing special moments, who is thoughtful, calm and incredibly competent, then look no further.

On top of that she’s a really fun person with a bubbly personality with whom it was really nice to connect and spend time with outside of the work on the ceremony.

Thank you so much Miranda! ☺️”
