Cricket Bats and Woodland Vibes: Hannah + James Knock it Out of the Park at High Billinghurst Farm

Hannah and James didn’t just tie the knot—they knocked it for six! Their woodland wedding at High Billinghurst Farm was a celebration packed with laughter, love, and, of course, a few cricket-inspired surprises. Forget about the usual mushy romance; this couple kept it fun, quirky, and true to themselves from start to finish.
How Love Bowled Them Over
Before dating apps had us all swiping left and right, James was searching for something different. So what did he type into his online dating profile? Cricket, of course! Out of three lucky matches, Hannah’s profile caught his eye. She was the only one who replied, and from there, their innings together began. Their first date at the pub was full of laughter (and maybe one too many ciders), but it was clear that this match was a keeper.
Fast forward a number of years. They’ve supported each other through thick and thin and now have a gorgeous little boy who has turned them from a couple to a family.

A Woodland Ceremony as Great as a Perfect Over
Forget over-the-top romance—Hannah and James were all about keeping it light, starting their woodland ceremony with a big group selfie! They’d already told their guests that they were skipping the “gushy love stuff” in favour of something more them: humour, fun, and maybe a touch of cheekiness. With dappled sunlight streaming through the trees, they exchanged vows that had everyone laughing and tearing up at the same time.
In a particularly standout moment, James’ mum delivered the poem How Love Is Like Owning a Dog by Taylor Mali, with enough gusto to have the whole crowd chuckling.

Rock, Paper, Scissors… Vows!
Hannah and James’ competitive spirit is the stuff of legends, so naturally, they kicked off their vows with a round of rock, paper, scissors to decide who’d go first. Classic! Hannah’s vows were a delightful blend of humour and heart, as she promised to support James through all of life’s ups and downs (and cricket matches) and vowed—at long last—to actually put her dirty laundry in the basket.

James, not to be outdone, told the tale of hiding Hannah’s engagement ring in his sock drawer for two years. His vows were just as funny, with a sprinkle of sweet, as he promised to always be there for Hannah, whether she needed a shoulder to lean on or someone to finish off the last of the ice cream.
Cheers to Prosecco, Cider, and Cricket!
After their laughter-filled vows, it was time to toast the newlyweds. While Hannah kept it classic with Prosecco, James—staying true to his roots—raised a proper glass of cider. It was the perfect mix of their personalities, setting the tone for a reception that was as laid-back as it was joyful.

Reception with a Cricket Spin
With their ceremony wrapped up, the party continued in High Billinghurst Farm’s rustic barn, where the couple’s love of cricket popped up in subtle, fun ways throughout the decor. From cricket-themed place cards to a quick game before dinner, the day was filled with personal touches that told their story. Laughter echoed through the barn as speeches were made, jokes were shared, and plenty of good times were had.

Looking to the Future: More Laughs, More Love, More Cricket
As they embark on their next adventure together, Hannah and James are ready for a life packed with laughter, love, and maybe a few more competitive games of rock, paper, scissors. Their wedding day was a reminder that the best celebrations aren’t always the ones steeped in tradition. Sometimes, they’re the ones that let you kick back, have fun, and simply enjoy the day with the people you love most.

Feedback
“When we first contacted Miranda we had no idea what was included in a celebrant’s remit. At most weddings we’ve been to in the past, the ceremony is the formality that you ‘get through’ to get to the party, but with Miranda, the ceremony was the start of the party! James and I both admitted early on that we struggle with ‘gushy lovey dovey stuff’ and we were very hesitant about using our own words and putting our own stamp on the ceremony. We are both so glad that Miranda encouraged us to write our own vows. It was the one time we really let each other know how we feel and we will remember those words forever (also because Miranda gifted us our ceremony script and vows). She was an absolute hit with our guests and we had so many wonderful comments about how fun and personal and ‘unapologetically us’ it felt. Many of our guests said how great it was hearing ‘our story’ and Miranda really took the time to get to know us and really tell it well. Would 100% recommend – Miranda is wonderful!”
